Indianapolis Star Notes Latest Honor for Barbara Kingsolver '77

90932August 7, 2011, Greencastle, Ind. —  "DePauw University 1977 grad Barbara Kingsolver will be the first recipient of the newly named Richard C. Holbrooke Distinguished Achievement Award for use of the written word to promote peace," notes today's Indianapolis Star. In her "Talk of Our Town" column, Cathy Kightlinger reports, "Kingsolver, a leader in the literature of social change, will be the first recipient of the Holbrooke Award, previously known as the Dayton Literary Peace Prize's lifetime achievement award."

The text continues, "Kingsolver will receive the honor on Nov. 13, according to DePauw. Her best-selling books include The Poisonwood Bible, The Bean Trees, Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life, and Animal Dreams." She's been honored with the National93697 Humanities Medal, the UK's Orange Prize, and the the LEAF Award for Lifetime Environmental Achievement in the Fine Arts.
