Faculty-Student Research to be Presented at Geological Society of America Conference

1872September 14, 2011, Greencastle, Ind. — Research conducted by a DePauw University faculty member and one of his undergraduates in collaboration with students at the China University of Geosciences will be presented at the 2011 annual meeting of the Geological Society of America. The event will take place October 9 - 12 at the Minneapolis Convention Center. Approximately 6,000 scientists are expected to attend.

Tim Cope, associate professor of geosciences, and Jake T. Willingham, a senior geology major, will present their project, "Crustal Extension and Volcanism Interleaved with Jurassic Shortening in the Yanshan Fold-Thrust Belt, North China."  The research was conducted with Chengming Li, Fei Teng and Changhou Zhang, all students at the China University of Geosciences in Beijing. The two institutions have collaborated on projects since 2000.
