September 27, 2011, Greencastle, Ind. — An article offering "10 must-dos for Skype interviews" includes tips from DePauw University's Steve Langerud. "Practice looking at the camera," advises Langerud, director of professional opportunities at DePauw. "Most candidates look at the screen but that means they are not looking at the interviewer. It feels odd but looks a lot better on the other side."
It's also important that the person being interviewed sit still. "Don't gesture too much," adds Langerud. "Depending on the connection on the other end you will present a jerky and distracting picture."
The story by CareerBuilder.com's Kaitlin Madden is published in the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Steve Langerud has helped more than 15,000 people with workplace issues and is regularly quoted in articles on the job market and career development, including a U.S. News & World Report story last week.
