94739April 22, 2011, Greencastle, Ind. — What does the music of Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Gordon Goodwin, Pat Metheny, Jimi Hendrix, AC/DC and Metallica all have in common? Their tunes will be performed by the DePauw University Jazz Ensemble during the final concert of the semester, Thursday, April 28. The program will feature an eclectic selection of jazz arrangements from a wide variety of musical genres. The concert is presented free of charge and will be held in the Kresge Auditorium of the Judson and Joyce Green Center for the Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m.

The DePauw University Jazz Ensemble will be performing such classics as April in Paris, as popularized by Count Basie; Thad Jones' Cherry Juice; Ellington/Strayhorn's Isfahan; and Glenn Miller's Chattanooga Choo Choo. 94740

In addition to these time-honored jazz classics, the Jazz Ensemble will be joined by guest vocalists to sing arrangements of Jimi Hendrix's The Wind Cries Mary; AC/DC's It's A Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock and Roll); and Metallica's Enter Sandman. You need to hear it to believe it. Yes these rock classics can swing!

The Jazz Ensemble will be saying farewell to five graduating seniors with Thursday's concert. These students will be featured throughout the program.

The DePauw University Jazz Ensemble is directed by part-time assistant professor Shawn Salmon. A post-concert jam session will be held after the concert at The Inn at DePauw's Fluttering Duck.
