Catheryne Shuman '08 to Compete in Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions

103103November 17, 2011, Greencastle, Ind. — Catheryne Shuman, a 2008 graduate of DePauw University, is scheduled to compete in the 2011 Kentucky District Round of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, reports the Lexington Herald-Leader. The competition will take place this Saturday, November 19, at the University of Kentucky's Memorial Hall. "At the judges' discretion, three or four winners advance from the Kentucky District to the Mid-South Regional Round, Feb. 11 in Germantown, Tenn.," writes Rich Copley. "Usually only one winner from the regional round goes to the national semifinals in New York, though judges occasionally select two to move on". (photo courtesy of the Lexington Opera Society)

The newspaper's preview notes that Shuman, who is 26 and lives in Fishers, Indiana, received a master's degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music after graduating from the DePauw University School of Music, where she 51209was a performance major. She is currently pursuing a professional diploma at Roosevelt University. 

Copley reports, "The judges this year are Wagnerian soprano Johanna Meier, tenor and Boardwalk Empire actor Anthony Laciura and celebrated baritone Sherrill Milnes, who will also offer a master class at 2 p.m. Sunday in Memorial Hall."
