"It's only been 24 days since the game was played," notes Ken Owen '82, executive director of media relations at DePauw, who masters the DVD. "Working with my colleague at Wabash, Jim Amidon, we were able to put the disc together in two days and get it to the factory about 50 hours after the game had ended. The two colleges are certainly fierce rivals on the athletic fields, but this collaborative partnership is an example of the many ways DePauw and Wabash work together." In addition to the telecast as seen on HDNet in widescreen (16x9), the 2011 DVD includes features on the two schools which ran during the game and at halftime; photo galleries covering this year's contest and another with hundreds of historic images from the Monon Bell series; some season highlights from DePauw and Wabash; media coverage of the 2011 Bell matchup; the 1993 re-edit of The Ballad of the Monon Bell music video, created for the 100th football game between the two colleges, which makes its DVD debut; and a short feature on the rivalry series produced by DePauw students in 1992. Also on the disc are "Monon Memories" of the 1911, 1933, 1934, 1951, 1981, 1993, 2005 and 2008 DePauw-Wabash games.
This is the fourteenth contest in the historic series to be captured on DVD. Also available are the discs of the 1977, 1994 and 2000-10 Monon Bell Classics (supplies of past games are extremely limited; the 2008 package is a two-disc set including all 115 "Monon Memories" produced to that date). After 118 gridiron battles between DePauw and Wabash, the men from Crawfordsville lead the all-time series, 56-53-9, while the rivalry is tied since the Monon Bell was introduced as the victor's prize in 1932, 37-37-6.
